Milk Dog Chews, originated from Nepal. The true story...

New to Europe this chew, but it has been sold in the USA for more than 9 years ago and is still going strong !

It all started with two Nepali natives, who were studying in the USA, and discovered that dogs love chewing on a traditional Yak Nepali hard cheese called Chhurpi. The Chhurpi had to be adapted to dog’s digestive system by reducing the lactose content because most dogs are not able to digest it properly.

The Himalayan Dog Chew or Cheese Bone was born and had so much success in just a few months. Despite this success the product didn’t really reached Europe before 2019.

But what exactly is a cheese bone?

The cheese bone is 100% natural and free of artificial perservative milk chew, based on an ancient Himalayan recipe. The milk is transformed into a low lactose cheese which is hardened for at least 3 months to reach a high density. The cheese bones are so hard that you cannot break it apart with your hands.

It doesn’t really have an odor but dogs love the sent of it and dog owners love the fact that it doesn’t make a mess and it doesn’t stain. Another benefit it’s that it helps the reduce of plaque and tartar build up, so it really prevents dental diseases in dogs.

The Truth

Most of the dog cheese bones that are distributed in the global pet market claim to come from Yak Milk. It is very common these days, to see advertisement banners claiming that the cheese bones production recipe contains Yak Milk till 99%! But it is nothing more than a marketing strategy, that noone can prove. The Truth is that the cheese bones recipe in most cases contains till 100% Cow Milk, especially the ones that are produced in Europe.

Yaks are legally protected as endagered species, but according to the Tibet Forest Bureau, this is difficult to enforce in some mountainous regions. A 2021 study from scientists estimates that the wild yak population globally is about 15,000 to 20,000, mostly inhabiting the Northern Tibet Grassland.
